Essential values are responsibility, self-respect and respecting others, individual uniqueness and singularity, tolerance and love.

 

The essential values are being developed through principles that take place within our pedagogical mission:

  • Personal development

    ►  encouraging personal needs expression

    ►  supporting all projects that might answer to personal needs as long as it respects our society’s rules

  • Co-operation

    ► encouraging solidarity, mutual aid, altruism

    ► suggesting concrete social actions in order to further develop an open mind

     

  • Acknowledging a person in its history

    Elderly residents might have gone through some happy and sad events and might be confronted by such events again in the future.
    ► helping them to maintain affectionate relationships
    ►  respecting everybody’s space

  • Acknowledging the handicapped person as a citizen that has rights and duties

    ►  Considering the handicapped people as global subjects; responsible people that have rights but also duties that will make them actors of their social life

     

    La Charte des droits et des devoirs is a handbook that defines residents’ rights and duties at Centre Reine Fabiola.

  • Self image

    If a mental handicapped adult has a negative self image, this can slow down their personal development.

     

    ► helping people to be aware of what they truly are, of their own skills, limits and vulnerabilities.
    ► working on the self image by communicating references about dress code, healthy food hygiene.

    Si le choix d’une personne s’inscrit dans le sens d’un achèvement de sa vie au Centre Reine Fabiola, il appartient à ce dernier d’adapter ses méthodes d’accompagnement aux fins de lui garantir une vieillesse de qualité.

  • Acknowledgment of any handicapped person as subject to love and tenderness

    ► acknowledging handicapped persons need to live, to have an affectionate life and/or a blooming sexuality

    ► offering a specialized and specific professional support
    ► Prioritizing 3 objectives that include recipients’ vulnerability:

    promoting protective behaviour through an education
    labsolute respect for the physical and moral integrity of others
    fighting prejudices and oppression

     

  • Socialization and integration

    ► Enabling each individual to use their skills in order to gain an active place in the social and economic life.

     

    One of the main social roles that are promoted in our institution is the « worker » as it will lead the resident to gain acknowledgment from others.

  • Spiritual dimension

    ► acknowledging residents rights to be respected in their religious, moral or lay beliefs

    ► acknowledging and supporting the right to be spiritual, to formulate spiritual questions, depending on their own abilities, on all ethical, cultural, social, existential topics

    ► defending humanist values but not imposing philosophical choices

     

    Educational teams, philosophical and religious animations services try to stress humanist and spiritual values in the concrete and daily life of recipients.
